On Tuesday 18 July, Mishcon de Reya played host to over 200 guests for British Council Africa and Invest Africa’s drinks to celebrate their new partnership. As Mishcon de Reya’s Executive Partner James Libson joked, we had even had our building – Africa House – named in the event’s honour.
British Council Africa supports over 250 companies and entrepreneurs operating across the continent and Invest Africa is a platform for business leaders, investors and entrepreneurs to gain insight and exposure to information and opportunities from Africa. Together they have launched a new platform, BCA-IA, forming the largest African focused private sector trade and investment network comprising decision makers from top global organisations, policy makers, private and institutional investors and entrepreneurs – all with a common interest in Africa. BCA-IA’s purpose is to ‘explain Africa to the world, and the world to Africa‘ in order to sensibly encourage investment.
This event celebrated this new partnership, and reflected Mishcon de Reya’s own passion for the continent. As James Libson put it, ‘it’s a privilege to be part of this enthusiasm for investment in Africa.’ The firm continues to expand its practice and leverage its experience in the region, conducting transactions and settling disputes for African clients, acting as their trusted advisors.
Drinks continued well into the evening with many a business card exchanged, against the backdrop of collective enthusiasm for the future potential of the ‘amazing, frustrating, wonderful‘ continent that is Africa.
